Flying a supersonic MiG-29 jet fighter or another similar military aircraft has always been the dream of my life. My wife knew that and bought me a voucher for a Fulcrum MiG-29 flight from an experience gift company. This was surely the best gift I ever received.
 

The MiG-29 flight was organized by a specialized jet fighter flight company, MiGFlug. The Top-Service they offer are MiG 29 flights in Russia, and Zero G flights in Russia and the US. Next to that, they have many smaller, price worthy jet trainers they operate nearly everywhere. But I was lucky to receive the rather expensive MiG-29 flight in Russia, so we went to prepare. MiGFlug has been very professional and helped us a lot with visa etc. We felt very comfortable with them.

Flying supersonic jet was never cheap. The Concorde jet was costly to run and maintain that led to high ticket prices. MiG jet flights in Russian MiG jets are even more expensive. A MiG 29 flight costs more than USD 15000 for the MiG flight only. And the cost to travel to Russia is not included in that basic price for Russian MiG flights. Advanced MiG flights like stratospheric Edge of Space flights cost even more for the MiG flight only.

The 4th-generation jet fighter aircraft Mikoyan MiG-29 was designed and developed by the Mikoyan design bureau in the USSR as a replacement for the MiG-23 Flogger for the Soviet Airforce. The MiG-29 Fulcrum air superiority jet fighter has been developed during the 1970s and joined the Air Force of the Soviet Union from 1983 at the well-known Kubinka airbase near Moscow.

To put it bluntly: A mig flight is not available at a bargain price. MiG-31 flights to the stratosphere cost dependent of the jet flight duration up to EUR 20,000. And mig 29 flight is with about half the price for the short mig 29 flight program still expensive. Fly jet fighters is something that is not affordable for anybody: Many customers are top managers, entrepreneurs, or multinationals on the look for a truly unique incentive program for key staff or key account customers.

Few people know that you don't have to be a pilot to fly a jet fighter. Mig 29 flights in Russia are available to anyone interested in taking a jet fighter ride.

A unique mix of political, economical and historical circumstances allows simple tourists to flying fighter jets in Russia. However, there are clear indicators that the possibility of flying fighters, especially to fly a jet fighter like the Mig 29, will become more and more expensive. To understand why this is so, let's have a look at the recent history of jet fighter rides in Russia and the price development of mig 29 flights.

Today, the only mig jet fighter available for a jet fighter ride is the heavy and modern mig 29. This was not always so: Six years ago, in 2004, flying Russian mig 29 flights with supersonic capability was a relatively low-priced endeavor. A wide range of migs - mig-21, mig-23, mig-25 and mig-29 were available for a jet fighter ride. Thus, for as low as 3800 USD, a supersonic jet fighter ride in the mig 21 fishbed was possible. Why fly mig 29 is the only viable option left when you want to fly mig. After flying mig in Zhukovsky became impossible in 2006, Nizhniy Novgorod remains the only place world-wide where everyone can fly migs.

If you want to do a mig flight, you can currently only choose between a mig 29 flight or a flight in the mig-31. A few years ago, many more aircraft were available for a rented ride: Russian mig flights were carried out in mig-21, mig-23 and even mig-25. Those days are gone. What has changed?
